VentureFizz spotlighted Open Runway in a blog post yesterday, check it out for yourself hereVentureFizz is a one-stop destination website that allows you to find ALL that is BUZZING within Boston’s technology community. Open Runway would especially like to give Keith Kline, the founder of VentureFizz, a warm thank you for being so supportive to startups. As a result of the post we received a number of beta testers for the site!  Thanks VentureFizz!

Open Runway wanted to send a special thank you out to all those who made our Boston Blogger’s cocktail event a success!  The event was located at the Watermark Cambridge, which was arranged courtesy of the beautiful, newly opened Bosse City Club & Spa.

We wanted to give local bloggers an exclusive preview of our site and get their feedback in a fun and casual setting…after all, shoes, bags and cocktails?! What more could a gal ask for!

Shoes and handbags adorned the room, pomegranate champagne cocktails were served, and monitor’s were set up to showcase our design studio.  There was even a DIY cookie station with cookie-shaped shoes and handbags waiting to be designed…and consumed, yum!

Being that our cocktail hour was an intimate gathering, we got to spend some quality time showing off our site, and were eager to hear feedback from our guests.

Those in attendance included Amy Allen who writes a lovely blog, which Amy first started in order to document her attempts to never wear the same outfit twice in one year (hence the name)- quite an undertaking!  We love how every week readers vote on one item from Amy’s outfit that they would like to see her wear again the next week in a new innovative way!

Also present was Melissa Massello co-creator of, where vintage and thrift shopping are infused as people come together to swap fashionable clothing.  Featured in USA Today, The Boston Globe, Mass High Tech, and BostInnovation (to name a few) check out their site for yourself to see what all the buzz is about! By the way, The 2nd Annual Boston Fashion Week Sip & Swap will be held this Thursday, September 29th from 6-10pm at the Microsoft Nerd Center.  Open Runway will be lending out shoes and handbags for the runway show, and will also have a booth set up during the event so make sure to stop by and say hello! Visit for more information! In other new and exciting announcements- OR is teaming up with the Swapaholics and will be running a contest for the best designed shoe and handbag with the chance to win a $100 gift certificate!  So put your creative caps on now, and be sure to check back soon for further details!

Naomo Mirando of also joined in on the fun. An avid fan of D.I.Y, a glance at her style-osophy tell us, “I don’t like labels or being forced to define myself.  My style is constantly evolving and inspired by everything.” Open Runway is exactly Mirando’s cup of tea!

The Boston Fashionista herself, Kristen Uekermann was also in attendance.  We can’t get enough of her blog, check it out to be inspired! Fashion and beauty tips and trends..oh my!

Joining the party, Lei Ann (possibly the best dressed Kung Fu instructor on the planet!) another who just couldn’t say “no” to shoes and cocktails. We loved getting to know the other side of Lei Ann “off duty”, and we invite you all to do the same at!

From left to right: June Liu, Lei Ann Resurreccion, Monika Desai, Melissa Massello, Naomi Mirando, Amy Allen, and Kristen Uekermann

We got really great feedback from everyone who came out for this event. “One of my favorite things about Open Runway (and there is a lot, I admit) is their motto: Join the Fashionocracy” – The Boston Fashionista. Our guests loved the concept of Open Runway, ”In this day and age everyone is about the utmost in customization and this just takes fashion one step further and into that same realm.” -Allen.

More positive comments were given about the ease of site navigation as well as connecting with other social platforms, “I like that you can share your creations via email or send to social media.”- Mirando

The feedback we heard the most? Everyone wanted to see more more more! Currently we are just offering handbags, but will soon have shoes available for creation. A few suggested additional product assortments such as dresses and accessories.  Once we get into the swing of things we will be expanding our range of styles and embellishments, as well as adding new product assortments into the mix!

Thanks again to all who came out! We truly value your opinions and are very gracious of your support.

Last night, the 63rd annual Emmy awards took place at the Nokia Theatre  in Los Angeles.  The red carpet was ablaze with stars in red- clearly the color of choice for the night!  Lets take a look at some of our favorite red looks.

Nina Dobrev from The Vampire Diaries stole the show in this red floor-length gown.

Glee’s Lea Michele looked stunning and sophisticated in this solid red number.

Actress Kerry Washington dazzled in a fiery red gown and matching red clutch.

Donning a floor length deep red gown, Kate Winslet looked as gorgeous as always on the red carpet.

By now you may be saying, “alright alright, they all look absolutely gorgeous in these gowns…but what about the shoes?!” (Or at least thats would I would say).  No worries, I found my favorite look of the Emmy’s last night, which conveniently happened to incorporate bright red platform pumps (which, after all may have had something to do with why it was my favorite look)

Any the winner is….

Kaley Cuoco won in my book for the most fun look of the night. I love the elegance of her one shoulder black gown, but the pops of red courtesy of her peep toe pumps and clutch made this Big Bang Theory actress take home the gold for best dressed! (Photo credits:;

Color blocking has taken the fashion world by storm!  This popular trend, wearing two or more blocks of color in one ensemble, will not only continue into the fall, but also continue to make a bold statement well into the spring.  No need to look too close at the NYC fall fashion week runway (going on now!) for it to be evident that designers are eating up this trend, just as much as those confident enough to wear it are. Thankfully, “fall bights” are in this season.  Standout from the crowd by combining these two popular trends to create a statement!

How to Master it:

  • Color blocking on steroids is not what we are after here- just like white in the winter, a little goes a long way.  You don’t “win” for wearing the most colors at one time, folks.
  • Try to combine a pop of color with other neutrals such as black, gray, white, or brown, especially at first if you are hesitant.
  • That being said, this is not a trend to be shy with! Don’t be afraid to experiment mixing colors that you normally would never wear together, but still compliment one another.  Nervous? A great way to do this is to start with solids.  Try pairing a solid bright dress with a different color solid bright shoe that, conventionally, may not “go together” and see what happens!
  • Beware of mixing color blocked garments or accessories- if you are wearing a color-blocked purse, please do not wear a rainbow inspired pantsuit- sensory overload.
  • Most importantly have fun with it!  One of the reasons I love this trend so much is because it is so bold. It emits a confidence that demands attention!

Often I get frustrated when I can’t find exactly what I am looking for, this is especially true when it comes to color-blocked shoes and handbags.  With Open Runway’s design studio, you can create exactly what you want, what you can’t find anywhere else!

I love how these two complimentary colors work great with each other! The butterflies add a touch of feminine flair!

These bright bold colors pop when paired next to one another. Embossed crocodile leather creates an exotic and sophisticated style!

With the end of August coming to a close, my favorite season is just around the corner…fall.  We’ve scoured the runways, and selected some of our favorite looks for  fall’s hottest shoe trends.  Using Open Runway’s innovative design studio, I created a collection my favorite must-have’s for the upcoming fall!

This perfect transition shoe is appropriate for those still hot summer days, but will carry over into the fall, flawlessly. Suede is all the rage, and will continue to be well into the next season. Metallic gold print on this jet black ultramatte suede gives this shoe some sparkle!

Reptile was seen all over the runway for the fall and winter seasons. This classic snakeskin is sure to set mouth's watering. I particularly love the covered wedge (another trend that will be sticking around) for an exotic chic look that won't go overlooked!

Since few women can resist the allure of patent, we were not surprised to see it everywhere on the fall fashion runway. This bronze and burgundy patent platform sandal is one of my favorites. Finished off with a half bow in fabulous copper metallic snake, with rhinestones adorned-this pair is sure to be a head turner at your next big-night-out!

Bows will be HUGE for the fall season. I love the sophisticated look of this flat- from the luxurious camel croc to the golden saffron piping, finished off perfectly with a navy blue bow embellishment. This creation not only combines style trends for fall, but the versatile color palette as well!

Just because summer is almost over, does't mean that we can't still have fun with flowers! I love the breezy, fun natured feeling that this pump emanates. Worn with tights and a skirt or skinny jeans, you will leave everyone wondering where they can get a pair for their very own!

Stiletto Heel

This come-hither heel, has a mysterious power that instantly adds boldness to any women's disposition! I am obsessed with this peep-toe platform pump in navy blue croc. A mary-jane strap with locket adds fabulous flair. I need these, like yesterday...

I hope you have fallen in love with next season’s fall fashions just like we have at Open Runway.  Which fall fashion creation is your favorite?  Don’t have a favorite yet? Then create you perfect shoe in our design studio at, and share it with us. Let us know in comments!

Is wearing white out-and-about after Labor Day the fashion faux pas that it once was? Labor day is less than a week away, and I don’t think I am quite ready to retire my white denim pants that I bought only a month ago.  I’m not sure who created the once stringent rule “no white after labor day”, but if I’m not mistaken, aren’t rules created to be broken?

When looking at fall and winter designer fashion on the runway, it’s quite apparent that many designers feel the same way.  Out with the old and in with the new!  Bright white platform pumps, stunningly white dresses, crisp white winter jackets, and yes…even white pants were spotted on the runway – all for the upcoming chillier months when, traditionally, white was ix-nayed.

Celebrities too, seem to have grown tiresome of this old fashion commandment.  Many gleamed in wintery white dresses on the red carpet this past December.  Others were seen running around town in their winter white bests.

Fashion guru Victoria Beckham in an elegant all-white outfit. Even little Suri Cruise has been spotted breaking the rules! (Photo credits:,

I feel the need to make a disclaimer about wearing white during the winter – a little white can go a long way, just remember sometimes, less is more.  For example, I love the way Kate Hudson donned white platform pumps to the Golden Globes- completing her elegant look.  On the other hand, Lady GaGa broke the “no white after Labor Day” rule, taking it to the next level…and beyond. Check out those sky-high platform lace-up boots!

So what do you think- is wearing white (tastefully) after Labor Day passé, or do you think it was a rule created for a reason?  Let us know in comments!
